Charles (Chuck) Scothon
General Manager & SVP, Girls Mattel Brands
Mattel, Inc.

 

With more than 12 years of experience with Mattel, Inc., Chuck Scothon has successfully launched some of the biggest names in the toy industry thanks to his penchant for breakthrough, creative marketing and innovative product design.  Scothon is the General Manager and senior vice president of the Mattel Girls business, overseeing all aspects of marketing and design for the Girls portfolio of industry-leading brands including Barbie, My Scene, Polly Pocket, Pixel Chix, Little Mommy, Disney Princesses, and several other popular girls brands.

In 2006, under Chuck’s leadership, the Barbie brand experienced its first full year of growth in six years, remaining the No. 1 fashion-themed doll in the U.S. and worldwide and winning numerous accolades and awards throughout the year. In 2007, Barbie continues to lead, unveiling a ground-breaking collection of innovative and interactive dolls and toys, releasing all-new DVD movies and kicking off hot partnerships, including Apple/iPod®, M•A•C Cosmetics and Hilary Duff.

Up until October 2005, Chuck was senior vice president of marketing and brand development for Fisher-Price where he oversaw all marketing activities for the Infant and Preschool brands, including Learning, Little People, Power Wheels, Rescue Heroes, and Pixter categories.  In addition, he oversaw all aspects of licensing, market research and marketing communications, including packaging and advertising.

Scothon began his career at Fisher-Price in 1994, as Director of Marketing for the Power Wheels line and in 1998 was promoted to Vice President of Marketing.  In April, 2000 he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Marketing and again in July 2003 to Senior Vice President Marketing & Brand Development.

Prior to working at Fisher-Price, Scothon worked for Prince Sports Group as a Marketing Manager on various categories, including tennis rackets, and at Kenner Products, where he worked in marketing on both boys and girls toys.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Scothon graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing.  He and his wife, Annette, have one five-year-old little girl Gabriella.
